THE NEED

Chef Hamdi is a Yemeni cuisine restaurant established in Penang, Malaysia. Their menu items are greatly influenced by both the Yemeni culture and the Mediterranean. Being located close to the University of Science Malaysia (USM), the restaurant needed a new, lively and youthful brand that would be both catchy and inviting.

THE SOLUTION

Considering Chef Hamdi’s intense love for food and culture, while also keeping in mind the young target audience, Optimum designed the new logo for Chef Hamdi’s restaurant with bright colors that speaks both youth and refreshment.

 

The main piece of the logo is the Janbiya; also known as (the Yemeni Khanjar). It was illustrated with 3 dots on the handle representing the 3 main core values of the restaurant; community, reliability and authenticity. The Janbiya was also designed to fit the typography choice as its edges were inspired from the font used itself. A 3D effect was used to provide depth and appeal.
